A simple line graph. The y-intercept in this case is 2.

The y-intercept of a line on a graph is where the line touches (or intercepts) the y-axis (the numbered line going straight up).

The equation for straight lines is [math]\displaystyle{ y=mx+b }[/math]. "[math]\displaystyle{ b }[/math]" is the [math]\displaystyle{ y }[/math]-intercept.
